Pre-production:
This is the beginning of your production, this all includes the process of preparing the shoot, searching for actors, crew members, the script, locations, storyboards etc. Pre-production is the period in which you need to make sure that all of your planning, shooting schedules etc. are perfect, therefore coming to shooting, everything rolls out smoothly and the amount of complications and faults decreases, assuming you have planned a solution to any problems.
Production:
This essentially is the shooting of your film, you have your actors, the location, shooting schedule etc. all ready to begin creating your film.
Post-production:
After you have gathered all of your clips, post-preduction begins because you now have to begin editing your film, using different visual effects, you can decide how many clips you want to include, add sound effects, include transitions to different shots etc. then release and promote the product.
Distributor:
A film distributor is responsible for the marketing of your film, distribution companies are generally different from the production company as distribution deals are very important when financing your film, the distributor will promote your film, choosing advertisement. They will also select cinemas to play you film.
What kind of media institution might distribute my media product?
Having already researched many distribution companies I have a good idea in which companies will be more willing to support my product.
New Line Cinema is the company I want to distribute my film because they have a long history with horror movies such as, all of the A Nightmare on Elm Street's, Friday the 13th films, and still are choosing to produce and distribute horror films now, including The Conjuring 1 and 2, Annabelle 1 and 2 which is coming out this year so they are working on new horrors, Lights Out, Final Destination films and more. The horror genre is a large part of the companies success because all together The Conjuring 1/2 and Annabelle have a worldwide gross of over $900,000,000, that's only on three films, they have more horror which have been very bankable. Lights Out is a very good example of a low-mid budget film, the production budget was $4.9 million and worldwide they made $145 million in profit, therefore proving that New Line Cinema aren't afraid of distributing low budget films, this is why I feel that this company will be more willing to distribute my product.
The best way to promote my film would be TV adverts or on any streaming service like Netflix, or I could use adverts for YouTube, this is because the advert will be spread across a much wider scale as a lot of places around the world have access to these. I also could place advertisements on billboards or on the side of buses, the only issue with this is that it doesn't reach a wide scale, the spread would only be a few cities or only a country.
My film would be distributed first in cinemas, but I would also want it to be featured in online streaming services a couple of months prior to the cinema release due to increasing amount of people using the internet. Having a film on YouTube is not the best way to distribute a film but it works because not everyone can go see a film in the cinema and may not have enough money to get a subscription on an online streaming service, so I think it is a good way to also distribute it and making it a reasonably cheap price can also attract more people.
